July 26, 2011

UPDATE: The Eternal Sunshine and Being John Malkovich prints are all sold out!

For a second chance to get a pair of these prints, check out the indiegogo page for the Gig Poster Film:

This film stars me, Daniel Danger and Jay Ryan. They will be offering Eternal Sunshine and Being John Malkovich Sets on Friday, July 29th, along with a ton of other amazing rewards, including original artwork by me and the other artists involved to people who contribute to the project. To find out more about when the prints go up and how you can get them, check the indiegogo page on Thursday, July 28th.

UPDATE: All the prints are sold out.

UPDATE:The Eternal Sunshine and Bring John Malkovich prints are currently for sale.

As per usual, July is the most insanely busy month of the year. I traveled to San Francisco (Renegade Craft Fair), Chicago (Pitchfork Music Festival, Flatstock), San Diego (Comic Con International), and soon I’ll be doing Unique LA in Santa Monica. I also released new prints at Crazy for Cult 5 and at the Mondo booth.

CRAZY FOR CULT 5
Crazy for Cult happened for the fifth time at 1988 Gallery in Los Angeles and for the third time, I was part of it. This year, I contributed two prints, both which sold out at the gallery show pretty quickly.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

The print, titled ” Here’s Where I Live…Lived” is a 3 color screen print on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb cream cover paper in an edition of 60. All the prints are signed and numbered.

Being John Malkovich

The print, titled “Think What I Think, Feel What I Feel” is a 3 color screen print on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb cream cover paper in an edition of 60. All the prints are signed and numbered.

Both prints will cost $60 each and will be available in my online store at a random time on Wednesday (7/27/11). Both can be bought together as a set for $100. Limit one per household.

To see more photos of these prints, please check out my flickr photo set.

LIVE EVENTS

I always have a blast traveling to different cities and meeting people. San Francisco was food heaven, Chicago’s Millennium Park was a treat, and San Diego Comic Con was a geek catharsis for me.

I didn’t have a booth there, but I still had fun doing a signing at the Mondo booth. Stan Lee made an appearance (signed the Olly Moss Captain America variant prints for me) and Kristen Schaal (Flight of the Conchords) came by and asked if there were any Tyler Stout prints for sale.

I also did a signing at the Zerofriends Booth (Crazy for Cult Book). Mike Mitchell, Mr. Toast, Ruell Pascal, and Scott Campbell were there signing the book as well. It was great meeting the fans and the artists that I have so often shown with.

The Unique LA Summer Show is coming up and it’s a lot of fun. I’ll have a booth there and will be selling posters and goodies in person. To learn more about attending that event, please check out their website!

FUN TIMES WERE HAD BY ALL!

Stuff Coming Up!

July 13, 2011

Howdiddly doooo. This month, the better questions are where won’t I be and what am I not doing?

ALICE PRINTS

First off, if you ordered an Alice in Wonderland print from the Alice Store and didn’t get it, please contact the Alice Store as they are a third party that is handling those prints. I sold some on my site, but those are different from the other store. I have informed them of your concerns however.

Crazy for Cult Prints

For starters, Crazy for Cult 5 was a hit! I did pieces for “Being John Malkovich” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. The Eternal Sunshine one sold out the night of the opening and the Being John Malkovich sold out shortly afterward.

I’ll definitely be selling both prints in my online store, not until I return from my travels to distant lands aka Chicago and San Diego. The prints will be for sale in early August. I’ll definitely announce the sale beforehand using my normal channels (this blog, facebook, twitter, mass telegraph, etc).

CURRENT SCHEDULE

As you might have guess, July is a busy month. Updates on my schedule now!

Flatstock 30 is inside the Pitchfork Music Festival, so attendance is limited to Festival attendees.

WHAT: Comic Con Internal San Diego 2011
WHERE: San Diego Convention Center, San Diego
WHEN: JULY 23 (Saturday), Exact times are TBA.
DETAILS: I don’t have a booth at Comic Con, but I will be at other people’s booths for signings and print releases. I can’t say too much because things are still being worked out, but I’ll tweet it once things are settled.

WHAT: UNIQUE LA SUMMER SHOW/a>
WHERE: The Barker Hangar (3021 Airport Avenue, Santa Monica, California 90405
WHEN: JULY 30 & 31, 11 AM – 6 PM both days

That’s it for now. I have more events and a big trip planned which I will be announcing pretty soon, so stay on it!

UPDATE: The Black Keys poster is sold out and there are no additional copies to sell.

UPDATE: The prints are currently for sale.

UPDATE: The time is currently 11:50 am PST and I will put these prints up for sale on my site in about five minutes. LIMIT ONE PER HOUSEHOLD.

It’s nice to work with those Akron, Ohio boys again. Fairly fresh from the press come these spiffy Black Keys posters. Dispensing with the information now:

The posters are four color 18 x 24 inch screen prints on 100 lb Black Cover paper. All posters are signed and numbered by me in an edition of 230. I’ll be selling these puppies in my online store at some random time today (June 30, 2011) for $30 each (LIMIT ONE PER HOUSEHOLD).

I’m also pleased to present this process video I made. I spent a lot of time recording the process, including the drawing, the designing, and the printing. Please watch it in High Definition! I invested my milk money in a nice DSLR and took steps to edit the footage in 1080 HD (my previous videos have only been available up to 720HD).

This was a challenging poster to design and to screen print for many reasons. The sharp edges of the clean lines are hard to maintain through a large run due to bleeding, paper expansion, and smudging.

The colors are created by multi-level overprinting, where the colors are deliberately mixed to be semi transparent and they overlay each other in certain areas to create additional colors. The paper is black, so when a color hits the paper directly, it appears darker and less saturated and the lighter colors are created by building up the layers.

The overprint nature created another level of difficulty, because the colors had to be both transparent and bold, so a lot of time had to go into color proofing and mixing. Also, due to the overprinting, the different layers had to be registered very tightly. The credit really goes to my printer, Danny.

I also created a nifty green color variant in an edition of 20 for the band and their team. I won’t be selling this variant online ever.

To see the rest of the photos, please check out my flickr photo set.

UPDATE: This poster is currently sold out. There is no art print version of it.

UPDATE: THIS POSTER IS NOW FOR SALE IN MY ONLINE STORE

Hiiiiiiiiii guys, it’s me again…

Lots of fun stuff going on over here. Just wanted to give you a heads up about this new poster I just finished for an Okkervil River show last week at the Wiltern.

The poster will cost $20 and will be available for sale on Tuesday (6/28/11) at a random time in my online store.

This print is a two color screen printed poster on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb Lemon Drop French Paper. All posters are signed and numbered by me in an edition of 120.

Additionally, I whipped up this process video to tantalize the senses. This one differs from many of my other posters in that the majority of the imagery consists of traditional drawing with very few digital elements.

UPDATE: Both of these posters are sold out.

UPDATE: THESE PRINTS ARE CURRENTLY FOR SALE.

NOTE: The Alice in Wonderland and Phish prints will be in different sections of my online store. Alice in Wonderland will be in ART PRINTS and Phish will be in BAND POSTERS.

Party people what’s up?

I’ll be dropping two brand, sparkly new prints into my online store. Options people, Kevin Tong gives you options!

“ADVENTURES FIRST… EXPLANATIONS TAKE SUCH A DREADFUL TIME”

This print is a six color screen print on 24 X 36 inch 100 lb white cover paper in an edition of 250.

I’ll be selling my copies for $60 in the art print section of my online store.

All the prints are signed and numbered by me.

This item will be available to purchase on Monday, 6/20/11 at a random time.

Making this print was really cool because I got turned onto some new things in the process. I made the print for “American McGee’s Alice: Madness Returns” at 1988 Gallery.

I even made a short process video of the drawing and color separations:

To see more pictures of this print and the original drawings, check out my flickr photo set.

PHISH- CAMDEN, NJ

I got to work with PHISH, which was really cool since they are one of the few bands who are all about posters and poster artists.

This poster is a four color screen print on 18 X 24 inch 100 lb white cover paper in an edition of 700.

I’ll be selling my copies for $50 in the band poster section of my online store.

All the prints are signed and numbered by me.

This item will be available to purchase on Monday, 6/20/11 at a random time.

Phish suggested making the poster relate to the locale, so I did some snooping. As it turns out, the famous Hindenburg disaster happened not far from Camden, NJ, so I went on to imagine a world where Zeppelins are the primary mode of transportation. I even redrew a map of New Jersey that points out the venue, so this poster has functionality in that you can use it to guide you to the venue.

To see more photos of this poster, check out my flickr photo set.

In other news, I will have TWO new prints available in the upcoming “Crazy for Cult 5: I’m Getting Too Old For This Shit“. I never get to go to Crazy for Cult Show Openings even though I have been a part of those shows for years because it is around the same time at Renegade Craft Fair San Francisco, but I am going to do my best to be at the show early on before I drive up North this year. Either way, I suggest going, because Crazy For Cult is always off the chain.

My current schedule has some new events added!

WHAT: RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR, SAN FRANCISCO
WHERE: FORT MASON FESTIVAL PAVILION, MARINA BLVD, SAN FRANCISCO, CA
WHEN: JULY 9 & 10, 11 am – 7 pm
DETAILS: This fourth annual event has returned once again to saturate the city with hundreds of DIY, independent vendors and artists. All Renegade Craft Fairs are free to the public.

WHAT: FLATSTOCK 30 at the PITCHFORK MUSIC FESTIVAL
WHERE: Union Park, Chicago, IL
WHEN: JULY 15 & 17, (Flatstock hours are limited to festival hours, but specific times are TBA)
DETAILS: My far flung affair with the fair city of Chicago will be aflare once again as I attend one of my favorite events of the year. The Pitchfork Music Festival attracts all the best musical talents and Flatstock is the definitive event to view and purchase rare limited edition screen printed art of your favorite bands by your favorite artists and to meet those artists in person. Flatstock 30 is inside the Pitchfork Music Festival, so attendance is limited to Festival attendees.

WHAT: UNIQUE LA SUMMER SHOW
WHERE: The Barker Hangar (3021 Airport Avenue, Santa Monica, California 90405)
WHEN: July 30 & 31, 2011 (11am – 6pm both days)
DETAILS: I’m really excited for the Unique LA Summer Show because I get the chance to say peddle my wares in my own backyard which I don’t get a chance to do so much because I usually skip Renegade Craft Fair LA because it coincides with the Pitchfork Music Festival. Unique LA always brings the best to the West. The event is $10 at the door or in advance (kids 12 and under are free)

WHAT: RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR, Chicago
WHERE: FORT MASON FESTIVAL PAVILION, MARINA BLVD, SAN FRANCISCO, CA
WHEN: SEPTEMBER 10-11, 11 am – 7 pm, both days
DETAILS: I can’t get enough of Chicago, so i am going back for seconds this year. Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago is open air and on the street, so it’s a very unique experience. All Renegade Craft Fairs are free to the public.

I definitely have more events this year, but those are all that’s confirmed right now. I’d love to meet any of you , so if you’re around, please swing by.

Hey you guyyyysssss. I have a new print in the upcoming “American McGee’s Alice” at 1988 Gallery in Los Angeles. It’s an Alice in Wonderland themed group show with some awesome talent, and me. (joke!)

I’m really happy with what I did for it. I chose to focus on the Gryphon because he doesn’t get the props and attention like the Hatter and the Caterpillar.

This is a 24 x 36 inch six color screen printed poster. The edition size is TBA. IT will be on display and for sale during the show.

I put together a short process video with a look at the drawing and screen separations of this poster. Enjoy.

To see all the photos, please check out my flickr photo set.

UPDATE: THE WAIT LIST IS NOW CLOSED.

UPDATE: I Saw the Devil and NOVOS are sold out. If you missed these prints, there may be the possibly of getting one after the dust clears. Please post a comment in this blog post requesting to be on the waiting list (be sure to enter your email in the form). You will be contacted if an extra turns up.

UPDATE: THESE ITEMS ARE CURRENTLY FOR SALE IN MY ONLINE STORE RIGHT NOW.

NOTE: Last week, I got some emails expressing confusion about how my online store works. Here are some key tips:

1. My store is set up with a shopping cart so you can add multiple items, but the shopping cart does not hold your item. The item is not yours until you finish the transaction and it is possible for the items to sellout while you have them in your cart.

2. Shipping gets automatically added when you check out. You do not need to calculate shipping or add notes. Please check your paypal address and make sure it’s updated with your preferred shipping address.

3. ECheck orders are going to be refunded immediately. Please do not send eChecks.

4. Shipping to anywhere in the US is $6, anywhere else is $10. There is no charge for multiple posters in one order. If you order separately, your items will be shipped separately, even to the same address.

5. There are multiple sections in my store. There’s a Band Posters section, an Apparel section, a Merch section, etc . The I Saw the Devil and Novos prints will both appear in the Various Prints section when they go on sale.

—————————————————————————————————————————–

Well I guess it that time. Thanks for all your patience over the weekend as I have been getting inquiries about the four sold out prints last week.

Tomorrow (5/18/11) at a random time, I will be putting my copies of “I Saw The Devil” and “NOVOS” prints for sale in my online store. For NOVOS, I will only be selling the regular color version, the variants are totally sold out. The “Mogwai” posters are also totally sold out as well and as per usual, I never reprint the same posters. Whenever I do live events (Flatstock, Renegade, etc), I usually/always have sold out prints available exclusively at my booth.

I SAW THE DEVIL

The glow effect is strong in this one. This poster is 24 x 36 inches and sports 4 screen printed colors. The edition size is 185 and all these prints are signed and numbered by me. They will be available in my online store for $60 (limit one per household). Standard shipping ($6 US, $10 international) applies here.

THINGS MADE NEW (NOVOS PRINT)

People are loving this one. This poster is 18 x 24 inches and sports 4 screen printed colors. The edition size is 50 (Artist’s copies, numbered AP) and all these prints are signed and numbered by me. They will be available in my online store for $50 (limit one per household). Standard shipping ($6 US, $10 international) applies here.

Thanks!

Supppps. I am thrilled to announce that I have a new print release for a short film that is still in production called NOVOS.

The print is titled “Things Made New” and is a 4 color screen printed poster on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb Lemon Drop French Paper. The entire edition size is 100, with 50 artist’s copies. I signed and numbered all the prints.

There is also a green color variant in an edition of 20.

The prints are gorgeous, the details came out nicely. To see more photos of these posters, please check out my flickr photo set.

For those of you that missed I Saw the Devil and NOVOS, I’ll be selling my copies of both posters at the same time next week (Mon, Tues, or Wed). I’ll make an announcement on this blog and on my facebook and twitter before the sale actually happens.

Have a good weekend.

Wow, what a thrill ride this week. I had four prints released this week (I Saw the Devil, Mogwai, and two NOVOS posters (regular and variant). I Saw the Devil and Mogwai were released early in the day on Thursday (5/12/11) on Mondo and my site respectively. Both of those prints sold out in less than ten minutes each. Then, at 11 pm PST that same day, the NOVOS prints were released on the NOVOS film site, with the variant selling out right away, making it my third sold out print in one day. The regular NOVOS prints sold out the morning after.

For those of you that missed out on I Saw the Devil and NOVOS, I will be selling both of those sometime next week. Please check this blog and my facebook/twitter as I will be making a post before they go on sale. For NOVOS, I will only be selling the regular color way.

MOGWAI, the Sequel

May 11, 2011

UPDATE: The Mogwai posters have sold out.

Hard core will never die indeed, because Mogwai is still out there tearing it up. I did another poster for one of their shows in Los Angeles at the Mayan Theatre (2009 poster) and I’m positively thrilled to be releasing it for sale tomorrow (5/12/11) in my online store for $30 each at a random time (limit one per household).

This print is a two color screen printed poster on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb Lemon Drop French Paper. All posters are signed and numbered by me in an edition of 80.

I made a very thorough process video of me making this poster, showing both aspects of the traditional drawing and inking, as well as the digital aspects.

To see all the photos of the poster as well as photos of the original drawings, please peruse my photoset on flickr.

The concert was quite awesome as my ears are still ringing. Mogwai never holds back when they play. The Mayan Theatre was the perfect place for them too, with it’s insane decor and Mayan themes, it really created an excellent mood and atmosphere. The band sold out of my posters before the show even started.

Backstage, there was a lot of celebrating. Apparently, it was Stuart Braithwaite’s (guitar, vocals) birthday that night and Martin Bulloch (drummer) had a child recently (because of that, he couldn’t join Mogwai on tour). Mogwai is super friendly and they all appreciated my poster and even signed one for me. Stuart told me the 2009 psoter is framed in his parents’ house back in Scotland. I had an incredibly hard time understanding half of what those Scots were saying, so I just nodded and smiled.

To see all the photos from the show, please check out my flickr photoset.

CONTESTO!

Anyhooo, if you are planning to attend Unique LA this weekend, I’d like to offer you a chance to get in for FREE (normal admission is $10 each day). Simply post a comment in this blog post that starts with: I AM UNIQUEING LA! (and ends with whatever you want) and you’re automatically entered for a chance to win a free pass. Please enter an email address that you check regularly and be sure that you are definitely going (either day or both days is fine). There will be five winners announced on Friday, around 2 pm PST. Winners are selected via the Almighty Random Number Generator. Spread the word!

In other news…
I’ve got some really exciting posters for some of the awesomest bands out there in the works as well as some other neat projects. I can’t reveal too much, but I’ve been super busy cranking out drawing after drawing and I am doing things I have never done before, artistically.

I’m also hoping I can get to Olly Moss’ solo show, (I’m calling it FREE BEER), at Gallery 1988 after I get out of Unique LA during the day. He’s sporting a plethora of new work and if you think you know what he’ll do, you’d best think again. Let’s all go?!? Yay? yay!

There will probably be a massive line, so you’re likely see to me outside, starting a fire with two sticks and writing “Day One” in my wilderness explorer journal.
