I did a poster for Washed Out’s show tonight (May 10, 2012) in Austin, TX at Mohawk. For those of you not lucky enough to go to their shows, I will have it available on my site soon.

This is a four color screen printed poster on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb Lemon Yellow French Cover Paper. It’s signed and numbered in an edition of 80 and costs $30 and goes on sale in my online store at a random time on May 10, 2012.

The textures came out really nicely, particularly in the trees and on the metal parts of the elevator.

Explosions in the Sky is a band I’ve always wanted to do a poster for, so this was definitely a milestone for me.

This limited edition poster is a two color color screen print on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb cream cover paper. I really enjoy drawing lots of lines and making things visually flow to communicate motion. My hope was to really capture a specific moment, as if they would just dance off the page in the next few seconds.

My latest poster is for their shows at Coachella

This limited edition poster is a five color (among four screens) screen print on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb cream cover paper. I loved doing the poster for their Coachella shows because many people I knew were there and it was nice to hear their feedback from the show.

It was really fun to research the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach and Pat Carney to reference their instruments and trinkets. Dan’s Harmony guitar was pretty easy to find reference for, but I still don’t know what that necklace thing he wears is. Pat’s glasses were hard, because they’re never really in focus or he doesn’t always wear them, so instead, I drew the glasses that Buddy Holly wore on his album covers.

ORGANIZED CHAOS

I’d like to take a moment to share the process a bit.

All my posters typically use some kind of grid. My grids are usually based off of straight lines, usually vertical, horizontal, and diagonal, all radiating from the center of the page. That helps me organize the information and position the illustrations. Since I draw different elements on different sheets of paper then combine them digitally, the grid helps remind me of the composition.

The goal was to keep this one loose and organic looking compared to the more rigid and graphic posters I have done before, so the straight line grid was used to place circles on the page, giving the layout a more natural, yet still ordered feeling. I can’t stress enough that I don’t really plan these things out on paper. These layouts and grids only guide what I do and I’m not aware of them as I work, I’ve just sort of trained myself to think that way. I wasn’t even aware of what the grid looked like until I wrote this blog post.

Wow, this was quite an intense show to make a poster for. At the Drive-In hasn’t played a show in 12 years and they came back for an awesome tour.

Bon Iver New Zealand / Australian Tour Poster

Doing a third poster (and a second tour poster) for Bon Iver was a real treat. Justin Vernon’s music is so subtle and sad, so bold, and beautiful. I hope my posters make for a good visual companion.

When I got the email inviting me to design the official poster for SXSW, I considered it to be a great honor. They were all fans of my work and I had the greatest time working with them, making a what might constitute as a gang of new friends.

With the success of my postcard sets, I decided to look beyond and make something far grander. Thee handsome postcard books feature 30 removable postcards that can be mailed to friends, family, clients, pot dealers, etc. The postcards are extremely high quality and the rounded corners ensure that they look new all the time. The 30 images, selected by me, represent a good spread of my career so far.

HANDMADE SKETCHBOOKS RESTOCKED AND NOW AVAILABLE IN MINI SIZE!

The sketchbooks have always been popular since I first released them and I had to mark them as sold out until I could make more. The time has now arrived! Not only are they back, but I am now offering a smaller and more portable size.

The covers are made from re-purposed posters that have been damaged during travel (thanks TSA!) or misprinted (thanks Jack Daniels!). This time around, I even threw in some test prints that made for interesting covers. The rounded corners ensure that is will always look like a boss.

I’m super excited to announce my new poster for Bon Iver’s New Zealand/Australian Tour. It will be available FIRST at my booth at Flatstock to attendees. Any remaining copies will be sold on my site later.
